Word of the Month

sympathy“Sympathy” is our word this month. Usually we think that it only applies at those times when we share sorrow for another’s loss or grief. This is true, but sympathy is so much more! It’s all about relationship! When we share an affinity with another or when what affects the other also affects us, this is sympathy. To share unity and harmony in action or effect, to think or feel alike in emotional or intellectual accord is sympathy. It’s also a feeling of loyalty, favoring another, or supporting each other. This sharing of a common bond is sympathy.

Isaiah 58:7-9 says “Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter — when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear: Then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help and He will say: Here am I.”

As we share sympathy with another, our Lord shares sympathy with us!
